Is the Mitsubishi Pajero Poised for a Comeback?
Rumours have started to swirl that the Mitsubishi Pajero might be making coming in the near future.
Speculation is doing the rounds on car news websites that the Mitsubishi Pajero might be returning, a legendary nameplate in the 4x4 world. The story to date stems from a single Japanese report that the model could come on the back of a new development within the Mitsubishi group.
Indeed, the Pajero held its own as a reliable vehicle for Australian conditions, with grunty diesel engines and great tow ability. It was used as a tow, tour and off-road vehicle, serving plenty of happy customers around the country and those models still do today.
So a resurgence of the great Pajero name is something we at Eastside Mitsubishi are excited about. However, it remains completely unconfirmed at this stage, so we can only speculate at the possibilities.
The Pajero had a four-decade legacy starting in 1982 until it ceased production in 2021. However, its place is well served by the extremely capable Pajero Sport, a diesel-powered 4x4 available right now at Eastside Mitsubishi - contact us, and we’ll organise your own test drive today.
A new Pajero would stand against rivals, providing a large family wagon 4x4 with top-notch capability including leading towing, payload and performance. Potential engine options are a twin-turbo V6 or even a plug-in hybrid drivetrain for the best of performance and efficiency. Having both would provide flexible options for customers, whether outright power or a blend of strength and efficiency are important.
The chassis might be a new development of a ladder-frame chassis, or it could go in an entirely new direction with trick active suspension and the adoption of Mitsubishi’s leading all-wheel drive control - as seen over decades of development.
In any event, we’re sure we’ll hear more as the story progresses and perhaps as rumours turn into something more tangible. The speculated timeline for the new Pajero hints at a launch date in 2027 - after the new Pajero Sport lands at Eastside Mitsubishi, your east Melbourne Mitsubishi dealership located conveniently in Nunawading.
